SHOP MY favorites

As someone who lives with constant FOMO and is easily #influenced (a fact I’m not proud of), I have tried more random products and services than anyone rightly should. But only a small handful of them have made me a loyal customer. Introducing my List of Favorites, a curated showcase of the brands that I’ll gladly recommend to anyone for a naturally holistic and sustainable lifestyle. Basically, if it makes my life easier, healthier, or prettier—it’s on this list. Simply scroll down to “shop” my favorites, and make sure to look out for the discount codes!

Some of these recommendations contain affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission when you click and make a purchase. While it doesn’t cost you an extra cent, it does support my business. THANK YOU so much for using my links. It’s a small thing that makes a big impact—and I am forever grateful!

Clean Beauty

Oookay, we have to start with my favorite splurge! Skincare is my addiction, if you couldn’t already tell. But I’ll let you in on a little secret: All—and I mean all—of my hair, skin, and makeup products come from only three places: Beautycounter, Kossma, and Primally Pure. Because with these three companies, I know exactly what I’m getting in my products (read: what my skin is absorbing on the daily) and I’m able to rest assured that all of the ingredients in said products have been tested for safety. No gambling with my health, thank you!

Switching to clean beauty can be an extremely daunting task, especially if you have a thousand half-empty lotions and potions sitting in your medicine cabinet right now. My advice: Start slow and keep it simple. Pick ONE brand and try a few things at a time. You don’t need to do a complete overhaul of your stash overnight. But, hey, if that’s your thing—knock yourself out!

Beautycounter

Beautycounter

Beautycounter is a revolutionary beauty brand with one sole mission: to get safer products into the hands of everyone. Whether you’re on the hunt for clean skincare, makeup, haircare, or sun protection, Beautycounter has it all! Not only are they leading the charge in the fight for #betterbeauty, but they’re also making waves in the industry for offering an array of high quality products that actually WORK. I am personally obsessed with their Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer, Overnight Resurfacing Peel, and the anti-aging Countertime Collection.

P.S. I became a Beautycounter consultant so that I could spread the message about nontoxic beauty, but I can’t say I don’t love the perks that come with it. If you’re interested in working towards safer skincare for all, or are simply wanting to boost your income in a fun and fulfilling way, give me a shout and I’d be happy to share why joining the team is worth it!

Kossma Beauty

I’m a newbie to Kossma, but I know a handful of ladies in the pro-metabolic space that swear by this natural skincare line for radiant, healthy skin. There are thousands of “natural” beauty companies out there, but natural doesn’t always mean nontoxic or even beneficial—especially when the main ingredients are seed oils and essential oils, both of which can be irritating and even harmful to the skin.

What sets Kossma apart is its commitment to using high quality animal fats, low-PUFA oils, and whole plant extracts that “provide bioactive nutrients such as vitamins A, D, E, and K, as well as balanced fatty acid profiles that nourish and beautify the skin.” The Kossma Beauty Method is simple: After cleansing, you use a tiny amount of serum to deliver actives to the skin, spritz a hydrosol to soothe and hydrate, apply your moisturizer and (optionally) a balm to lock it all in. So far, I’ve tried and loved their Purely Potent Vitamin C Serum, Marshmallow Malva Hydrosol Elixir, Tallow Balm (I don’t know how I ever lived without this!), and Pearl Micro-Exfoliant.

Primally Pure

Primally Pure

Primally Pure is the newest brand to make its way into my beauty collection, but I’m already crazy about it. For one, the products are all formulated using the purest ingredients sourced from family-owned farms—which you know is legit, because the founder herself, Bethany McDaniel, is the wife to an organic livestock farmer in Southern California. (McDaniel started Primally Pure when she discovered the power of eating real food from her family farm, and her “eyes were opened to a new world of wellness” in which toxic chemicals didn’t belong.) And TWO, the products are surprisingly affordable—like $20 for a cleansing oil affordable. My favorite ones are the Natural Dry Shampoo, the Holiday Candle, and their Clean Deodorant!

Food + Drink

What you choose to put into your body day in and day out—well, there’s nothing more powerful, in my opinion. The whole reason I pursued functional nutrition was to get over my calorie-counting obsession and learn how to nourish my body naturally, and what I discovered was that true health begins and ends with whole, unprocessed foods. Here are my go-to products and services that help me to do just that, while making it as easy as possible.

Primal Kitchen

Primal Kitchen

Founded by Paleo food blogger and fitness author Mark Sisson, Primal Kitchen is a one-stop shop for delicious Whole 30-compliant dressings, marinades, sauces, collagen powders, and protein bars. Say goodbye to your ordinary soybean oil- and sugar-laden salad dressings and marinades! Primal Kitchen specializes in clean condiments chock full of healthy fats and ZERO sugar so you don’t have to worry about slathering on the flavor. (We always keep a jar of the Avocado Oil Mayo and Unsweetened Ketchup on hand!) My absolute favorite product, however, is the Collagen Fuel Drink Mix—offered in Vanilla or Chocolate—to blend into smoothies for that extra boost of protein (and to keep your skin baby smooth).

Thrive Market

If you somehow haven’t already heard of the Amazon of good-for-you groceries, let me introduce you to my favorite hack ever: Thrive Market! It’s an online marketplace with the sole mission to make healthy food and natural household products available to everyone. They sell everything from pantry staples to home decor (and now sustainably produced meat and seafood!), all at 25-50% off retail price. But the real reason I’ve stuck with it for so long? The options, y’all. You won’t find most of Thrive’s specialty brands in your regular, run-of-the-mill grocery store, and the savings are ridiculous. Just this year, I’ve saved $350 from shopping with Thrive, and that’s after the $59.95 annual membership fee.

Wild Pastures

As a holistic nutrition consultant, I’m very passionate about where my food is sourced. Animal products (aka meat, eggs, dairy, and seafood) are amongst the most nutrient-dense foods you can consume, but how they’re treated and what they’re fed during their lifetime matters. That’s why I’m proud to be a member of Wild Pastures, a network of highly principled farmers who utilize regenerative farming practices in order to raise healthy animals in a way that is beneficial to the environment. All of their animals are 100% pasture-raised and grass-fed—as nature intended—and, despite what you might assume, their offerings will not cost you an arm and a leg. (Especially if you utilize my link below.)

Naked Wines

Naked Wines

I used to swear by Dry Farm Wines (and still do!) for the amazing quality and trustworthy sourcing, but I just couldn’t justify the monthly cost. Luckily, Naked Wines shares similar values to DFW but won’t break the bank. Not only do they work exclusively with small vineyards, but their bottles average only $8-12 each! Which is why Naked Wines is my go-to when I’m feeling frugal but don’t want to compromise on taste or purity.

Explorer Cold Brew

It doesn’t matter the season, I will always opt for cold brew (with cream) as my coffee beverage of choice. In fact, I’m sipping on a glass of nitro right now. The downside? Cold brew is typically much more caffeinated than a regular cuppa joe, and all that buzzin’ can make a girl feel cray.

I tried making my own decaf at home when I was pregnant with Ayla, but it just never tasted as bold and delicious as my regular coffee shop brew. It wasn’t for another year and a half that I would discover Explorer, a company that sells delicious cold brew concentrate in a range of caffeine levels—including low-caf, my personal favorite. With only 50 mg of caffeine per 2 oz. serving (which can be mixed with milk or water), now I can sip to my heart’s content without experiencing those all-too-familiar heart palpitations. I’ll cheers to to that.

P.S. Their Variety Travel Box makes the perfect gift for coffee lovers! I actually purchased this as a White Elephant gift for my family Christmas party last year just so I could steal it back.

Organo Gold Reishi Coffee

Organo Gold Reishi Coffee

I’m normally a cold brew gal, but there is one hot caffeinated beverage I can’t get enough of right now: Organo Gold’s mushroom coffee. Everyone raves about this reishi-infused brew because of the supposed health benefits, and while I can totally appreciate that—it definitely does seem to help me feel calmer, similar to when I drink green tea or matcha—the main reason I keep going back for more is the TASTE. Never before have I met an instant coffee that I liked, but this stuff is the real deal. It has the same rich flavor as freshly-brewed java, and it froths up nicely with just hot water or mixed with my favorite chocolate collagen powder. Inflammation-fighting superpowers are just an extra bonus!

For the Home

Scott and I have owned our current house for almost five years now, and I’m a bit ashamed to admit that, aside from a fresh coat of paint, we’ve barely paid it any attention as far as upgrades go. (We said we’d renovate the very outdated bathrooms when we first moved in, and we’ve yet to touch them.) Turns out, we prefer to spend our $$$ on experiences and travel. Not to mention, interior design is not my forté. But we’ve still managed to make our starter home a comfortable dwelling place that reflects who we are as a couple: chill, low-key, cozy. And I take pride in the fact that it’s always mostly clean—fitting, considering the one thing on this list so far is my favorite cleaning product. You know what they say: A tidy home is a welcoming one! (JK, I made that up.)

Branch Basics makes simplifying your cleaning routine easy with their all-natural multi-purpose solution that is free of preservatives, fragrance, and GMOs. No more holding your breath while you clean! One eco-friendly product, a thousand different uses.

Simply dilute The Concentrate with water, and you'll be ready to tackle any cleaning job around the house—whether you’re going to town on tile, glass, counters, mirrors, or even your dirty laundry. Their pre-labeled glass bottles are gorgeous (I have the one for “bathroom,” but I plan to eventually purchase the whole collection.) I’m also a bit biased towards BB because the three women who founded the company all live right here in Texas.

Good reads

Since quarantine started, I've gotten into the habit of buying my books from Amazon, mostly because patience is not my virtue and that two-day shipping is hard to resist. But as a forever lover of brick-and-mortar bookstores, it's becoming increasingly important to me to help support indie bookstores as much as possible—especially since, thanks to the pandemic, many small businesses across the US are being forced to close their doors. Which is why I was relieved and excited to discover Bookshop.org, a digital marketplace for book lovers that launched in January 2020 with the sole mission of financially supporting local, independent bookstores. 👏🏼 It's super simple: Every book you order from their site is more money in the bank accounts of small booksellers, and you never even have to leave the house! Honestly, that beats speedy shipping ANY day in my book (pun intended).

My favorite reads are mystery novels, historical fiction, memoirs, and contemporary fiction. Browse my entire bookshelf here, but below are some of my recent recommendations:

P.S. For a cheaper and more eco-friendly option, you can also find me on PangoBooks, a place for buying and selling used books. (It’s sort of my favorite app ever.)

self-care

Because sometimes we need just a liiittle bit of help to feel our absolute best. Self-care isn’t always sexy, but it sure is necessary. My tip? Ritualize it. Make it special, add some fun! For example, I always light a candle and sit down with a cup of hot coffee when I dive into Scripture because that’s what feels warm and fuzzy to me. Romantic, even. Whether you’re trying to get more ZZZs, take up journaling, move your body every day, or follow a meal plan—these innovative tools will motivate you to start and keep it up:

BluBlox Glasses

Bon Charge Glasses

Bon Charge is a biohacking brand that creates evidence-based and stylish blue light blocking glasses in three signature shades: Sleep+ (red lenses for winding down at night), SummerGlo (yellow lenses for depression and anxiety), and BluLite (clear lenses for daytime). Before finding Bon Charge, I owned two really cheap pairs of “blue blockers” from Amazon—neither of which made any difference in my headaches or sleep quality (not to mention, I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing them in public). My Sleep+ glasses, on the other hand, are ridiculously cute (I have them in Clarke) and address the exact frequencies of light required after dark to optimally produce melatonin for restorative sleep! I also use their red light bulb in my bedroom lamp at night, and it’s a total game changer.

Perfect Supplements

Want to give your gut some love? Grass-fed collagen, gelatin, and bone broth are some of the most healing foods money can buy, and Perfect Supplements offers my top choice. These are the three products I’m constantly restocking, but they also sell everything from medicinal mushroom capsules to desiccated beef liver (other amazing health-promoting options). Why do I trust this particular brand most? Every finished batch is tested by independent 3rd party labs and certified Perfectly Pure, so you don’t have to stress about quality. You’re getting only the good stuff!

Lola Feminine Care

Not the sexiest thing on the list, but self-care isn’t always fun. And when it comes to being a woman, period products are one of the most necessary forms of self-care there is. I love Lola because their pads and tampons are made with organic cotton—I ain’t about chemicals and pesticides near my bajingo—and their subscription service is incredibly easy and hassle-free. (No more panicked trips to Walgreens in the middle of the night!) I also just recently purchased their Period Underwear as a backup; I’m still too mess-averse to try their menstrual cup, but maybe that’ll be my next adventure.

Mitolife supplements

Mitolife Wellness

I first heard of MitoLife through Amanda Montalvo (aka the Hormone Healing RD) when I was working on my metabolic function after having Jude. It’s a Christian-owned company that produces quality dietary supplements to help support the body against harmful exposure to omega-3s, iron, impure water, impure air, inorganic minerals in food and water, and non-native electromagnetic fields. My two purchase-on-repeat products are Purely K, which helps move calcium out of arteries and soft tissue and into teeth and bones, and PUFA Protect (Vitamin E), which protects from inflammation caused by unhealthy fats in the diet. Before trying any supplement, I always recommend working one-on-one with a registered dietician, nutritional therapist, or functional medicine doctor to determine what is right for you.

Ava Fertility Tracking Bracelet

The Ava Bracelet tracks ovulation while you sleep using five physiological signals of fertility, including body temperature, resting pulse rate, breathing rate, sleep patterns, and heart rate variability ratio, for ultimate accuracy. I’m not exaggerating when I say that Ava played a huge role in my becoming pregnant naturally. I’d been charting my cycles for years based on cervical mucus observations, but it wasn’t until I invested in the Ava fertility tracker that I knew for certain if I was even ovulating. (The accuracy was spot on the month I conceived, even with my history of irregular periods.) Plus, I love that it’s so simple to use—you’ll never have to groggily mess with a thermometer in the early morn again!—and it records everything automatically in a handy dandy little app on your phone for easy access. Easily the best $300 I’ve ever spent.

Silk + Sonder Planners

Silk + Sonder Planners

Silk + Sonder is a subscription-based set of wellness planners that include a variety of layouts inspired by positive psychology, bullet journaling, and self-help books. For those of you (like me) looking to keep your plans, lists, reflections, doodles, and expenses all in one pretty place—S+S is your solution. I love that each month has a specific theme with prompts, quotes, and thought exercises centered on that theme. You pay $19.95 for a monthly subscription or $160 yearly, with a new planner arriving on your doorstep each month.
