Personal Quirk #242: When my life changes in some (big) way, I change my hairstyle. The summer before junior high, for instance, I went all 2003 Mandy Moore, trading in my long stringy locks for a short spunky 'do that I fell in love with after first seeing How to Deal.
I did the same thing only three days before my high school graduation. Even though I was super happy with the results on both occasions, it wasn't really the haircut itself that made me giddy with excitement. More than that, I loved the revitalizing feeling of doing something a little spontaneous during the already-unpredictable times in my life.
I'll admit that the "milestone" I'm facing is not so obvious this time around, but I do feel like a completely different person than I was two months ago. Whether it be spiritually or emotionally—or both—I seem to be growing and changing in a lot of unexpected ways that I can't quite explain. And honestly, I've never felt better. Anything is possible. I am joyful, confident, energized, and ready to take on the world! Okay, I think I just crossed the threshold from inspiring to cheesy. But, the fact of the matter is... I've reached a memorable place, perhaps a turning point, in the young adulthood chapter of my life. So naturally, it's time once again to do something drastic to my hair. (At least I'm consistent in my cooky rituals, right?)
Now to the actual point of this post: tomorrow, I have an appointment with a professional stylist to color my light brown tresses BLONDE. (Saw this coming? I suspect that the title must have given it away.) Y'all, I'm sort of freaking out. I've never colored my hair before, but I've always been curious to try it. So naturally, when the crazy idea struck me on Tuesday, for the 100th time in the past few years, I figured this was as good a time as any.
I'm not sure what to expect—tips, suggestions, and forewarnings are appreciated—but I'm really liking this soft golden blonde that Emma Watson pulls off so well:
Chances are, though, my stylist might not recommend going that light the first time around. Baby steps, baby steps. Perhaps a honey-ish color might suit me better? I'm pretty clueless, but I guess I'm going to find out on Friday!
***Photos to come, even if I hate it. Promise. (But here's to hoping I won't!)
